Air Mattress: Should You Buy a Single Dual Chamber Air Mattress?
Not all air mattresses are alike. Basically there are a couple of different types of chamber air mattress. There is the single
chamber and dual chamber air mattresses out there. The difference, while subtle, is important when you go to make the decision about your chamber
air mattress.
A single chamber mattress is basically one big balloon. There is only one air chamber that is the entire interior of the
mattress. Most twin sized mattress and many of those less expensive larger ones are single chamber mattresses. They are best suited for one
person. Larger ones may be shared, but the amount of motion transferred between the sides of the mattress is huge. If you are gong to buy a
mattress that is for your personal use one and with nobody else, then a single chamber air mattress is going to be just fine.
A dual chamber air mattress is a different story. This is the basic model used for the high end air mattress you see
advertised on television. These offer two chambers inside that allow separate sides of the mattress to be inflated to different levels.
Additionally, having two chambers allows the motion in the two sides of the mattress to be effectively separated. If you are going to be sleeping
with a partner, or even with a pet, a dual chamber air mattress may be for you. They tend to be a little more expensive, but worth it for the
level of comfort they can provide over single chamber mattresses when used with more than one person.
